Spotting error(written vs answered)

Having written my paper(a)/ in the examination to my satisfaction(b)/ it was not unreasonable on my part(c)/ to expect a good position(d) in the university(d)

My book says:- it should be 'Having answered my paper...'

Please tell me the difference.

I have heard "write a paper" and "answer the questions" but never "answer a paper."
