Spotting Error

The power to distinguish between differences is the basis of science and art.

The above sentence has no error according to my book.
Shouldn't we omit 'differences' as 'distinguish' and 'differences' means the same? Please correct me if I am in the wrong.

"distinguish between differences" isn't right (or almost certainly isn't what is meant). That would mean comparing one difference with another difference, an unusual thing to do. Perhaps it means "identify differences".

Good book.

There are differences between these colors. Artists would distinguish the differences with "feeling" words such as warm, cool and soft. Science would distinguish them with measurement words such as frequency (hue), saturation, and intensity.
