... There will be a limit of 10 participants per field events session. Spots are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis...

It's an ad for a track and field camp. I wonder what "spots" here means? Please help.

I f 10 'spots' are available in eg the high jump event, it means that a maximum of 10 people can enter. A field event usually refers to throwing, jumping, etc. Not to events like running.
