Hi Mike,
Am I right if I say that "soft spot" also means a vulnerable or weak place. E.g.
"a soft spot in his argument"... ?
but I completely agree that "to have a soft spot for smb. or smth." is what you mean.

Sure, I (for one) see no reason why it couldn't be used to mean that. I have never seen it used that way, but go right ahead - as long as the context makes your meaning clear
