should I say "Sports have always been my hobby" or I should use "has", instead of "have"?

"Sports" i always used in plural? Can I say " tennis is my favorite sports"?

Top answer

I would say " Sports have always been my hobby" or " Sport has always been my hobby". "Tennis is my favorite sports" is definitely incorrect. It should be "sport".

In certain contexts, sport in its plurals form (sports) acts as an abstract noun that implicates any atheltic activity such as basketball, soccer, swimming, cycyling and so on. Despite its plural appearance, "sports" takes a sinular verb in some contexts.
