Sponsor

If a company sponsors an event organised by a charity is it fair to say "We think it's important to support charities in holding events like this."

My issue is with the word "holding". I guess the company is supporting the charity in "holding" the event because it's paying for the venue.

Anonymous We think it's important to support charities in by holding events like this. Fine with "by" instead of "in". Yes, it's fair to say that, but I think your concern is that the charity is holding the event, not the company.

  • I see what you mean.
  • You should probably change "holding" to "sponsoring" in that case.

Thanks, CJ. The more I read the original, the more I think it's ok as it is. Before this sentence, there is a sentence that explains the company sponsored the event.

The company is supporting the charity in organising the event. How? By providing funding.

This is making me a bit cross-eyed! I have found examples of "support *** company in organising the event" on google.

Does the original sentence make sense now that I've explained that sponsorship has already been mentioned. Sorry, I shouldd've explained earlier.

Yes. I said "OK" because I figured you knew the context better than I did. The choices we've talked about are suggested as possibilities for you, but you have to be the final judge.
