Essay & Composition Writing

Spoken communication is more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Whether spoken communication is of greater value than written ones poses a matter of controversy. Some people claim that written communication nurtures their creativity and imagination whereas spoken one exerts direct impacts on their emotions. I partly agree with the statement for the following grounds.

On one hand, the spoken version directly affects people emotionally. Only after people listened to sentimental speeches, could they be moved to tears, feel aroused, and being furious or happy. Presidential speeches are telling examples of spoken communication that touch people’s hearts worldwide. On the other hand, written form reflects the writer's thoughts and feelings. As a consequence, it evokes people's multi-faced feelings. My cousin is a case in point. Thanks to reading Harry Potter, he could profoundly perceive the writers' sympathy as well as humanity.

Educationally, oral version could better understanding of citizen about facts and life. While the written format is only accessible to literate people, spoken form is comprehensible to people of all ages and academic proficiency. In addition, by dint of hearing meaningful speeches about the environment and pandemics on television, people are urged to take action to protect their surroundings and become increasingly aware of disease risks. However, written communication could nurture a series of living skills. Not only does it enhance people’s creativity along with imagination, but it also helps people learn to be critical in their thinking, enrich their range of vocabulary and grammar. it is non-verbal forms such as newspaper and online magazines that are more informative while literacy works could reflect the deepest thought of writers.

In conclusion, both means of communication are equally powerful depending on certain circumstances. Notwithstanding that the non-verbal version is crucial for individuals’ skills, the spoken one plays a vital role in conveying emotion.
