Spoken communication is always more powerful than written communication. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is generally believed that speaking has more power than writing. As for me, I partly agree with this viewpoint because written contact is also more effective in certain circumstances.
When it comes to situations requiring our expressions, feelings and voices, verbal contact is always better. I will take dating as an example. When we go on a face-to-face date, it is more memorable and even easier for us to discover our boyfriends or girlfriends’ personalities and thoughts since their facial expressions and body languages show us all. In contrast, were we to text each other, everything would be so vague for us to understand them. Moreover, when people in an argument, typed ideas will not help them to be convincing because they take so long for them to explain while people need to act immediately to reject one’s opinion and support their own ideas. Therefore, in this case, oral communication is the sharpest weapon for us to avoid being feeble and make others approve of our perspectives.
However powerful oral speech is, I am the opinion that words and letters are more convenient regarding following purposes. Firstly, written contact makes everything detailed. To illustrate this, a description helps patients to cure a disease by listing medicines for them to take. Otherwise, an application form informs assistants of customers’ details when doing business. Without paperwork like that, they would be unable to conduct their work. Secondly, since written texts are more formal than spoken ones, so in case of academic circumstances, students need to keep track of lessons by writing into their notebooks main knowledge delivered by lecturers to memorize. Hence, if they used spoken communication to question teachers and did not take notes, they could not pass exams including those lessons. Finally, in some special events such as birthdays and New Year, a card with full of loving messages is more meaningful than a conversation.
In brief, I still claim that verbal language is only more useful than written one in meetings and arguments. Likewise, the latter becomes effective in terms of papers, academic life and wishes for holidays.
Thank you so much!!!
