Spoken American English

In informal spoken English people sometimes use "less" instead of "fewer", my question: is this sentence can be sad by native speaker: There was a lot less people at the grocery store yesterday
Or should it be "There were a lot less people..."

Top answer

" That one, but I always say "fewer". There were fewer people than usual at the grocery store yesterday. The store was much less crowded than normal.

  • " That one, but I always say "fewer".
  • There were fewer people than usual at the grocery store yesterday.
  • The store was much less crowded than normal.
