Without the article. I just want you to have spirit in whatever you're doing. It would sound more natural if you replace "spirit" with "enthusiasm".

1. Does 'a spirit' (with article) mean 'a ghost"?

2. He didn't approach the work in / with the right spirit. (From dictionary)
Am I using it right below? (About the attitude?)

2. Looks correct to me.

3. The meaning changes: "lacks the right spirit" = the correct attitude, "lacks the spirit" = doesn't have commitment/energy.
