The only usage I can think of is the following: I love to travel the world, and the way I decide where to go is by spinning the globe (a spherical representation of the map of the world, mounted on a spindle), and then stopping it with my hand. The only usage I can think of is the following:

I love to travel the world, and the way I decide where to go is by spinning the globe (a spherical representation of the map of the world, mounted on a spindle), and then stopping it with my hand. Wherever my index finger lands is where I'll head to next.

I don't know of a way to make that phrase figurative. I think it might need an elaborate set-up.
