"spin out" or "belt out"?

Here is the question from China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters, not from that reference book:

As always when she sang in the bathroom, she _____ the high notes in a special way.
A. span out
B. belted out
I chose B because it means "sing loudly" but the key is A ,meaning "prolong", which seems to make sense as well. But I still don't know why B is not correct. Could you please explain it for me? Thank you.
