"Spin" is a verb and noun used in political contexts. It means to distort the truth so to make a situation appear better for your side. - eg. He put a positive spin on a abject defeat.

Thanks your explanation help me a lot. I am still wondering why 'spin' happened to have the meaning distorting the truth. I guess twist is closer to distort, whereas 'spin' is closer to rotation. Do you have any idea why it came up with the meaning of distortion?

Probably the meaning comes from spiders - the spider spins her web to catch her prey.
Politicians spin the truth to catch the gullible.
