If you jut say 'control, it sounds to me much more definite and absolute.
In most situations in chess, I'd say that the matter of control is less definite.

It's not even easy to define exactly what 'control' means, in terms of a chess position. Consider, for example, the concept of sacrificing a piece to gain a later advantage.
