spend v+ing

Dear members

"Some people spend a lot of money to save their pet's life."

I saw the sentence above with "to save" after "spend".

But for my knowledge, I guess that should be "saving" rather than "to save" because of "spend"

Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance.
