spend + V ing or V

Dear members

"I spend a lot of money to buy rare stamps."
"I spend a lot of money buying rare stamps."

I guess the word of 'spend' have "V+ing" after "time or money"
Am I right? if not, those the above setence have different meaning?

Thanks in advance

No. The meaning is the same.

With "money", the -ing form is far preferable to the to form. With "time", the -ing form is your only choice.

I would use only -ing after both "money" and "time".
