Hello,

is it a common expression to say: "spend the earth" on something?
What I mean by this, is to spend lots of money.

In English it's to spend money like water.
Also, to spend money like there's no tomorrow.
Also, to spend money like a drunken sailor.

Not 'spend the earth'.

Funny, I've never heard "spend the earth" or "cost the earth" I have heard these:

My new sweater cost me an arm and a leg.
She spends money like it's going out of style.
