Spend ...on/in doing sth

I saw in the Oxford Dictionary the following useage

spend money on doing something

spend time in doing something

Then can I say I spend two days on the task? Thank you!

Thank you! But I really want to know how native speakers use "spend". Is it the same as what the dictionary says?

Hi Sevengem

When 'spend time/money' is followed by the -ing form of a verb (doing), I'd say I would not use a preposition at all in most cases:

- I spent a lot of time comparing prices and features before I finally bought my new car.
- He didn't spend much time studying before he took his final.
- They spent hours looking for the ring.
