Spend O to V?

I spent a lot of time to get rid of the stains VS. I spent a lot of time getting of the stains. I know that verbs such as spend, waste, and so on usually followed by "-ing" but I think that in a certain context, I also can use "to-v". What do you think?

Thank you all the time Have a nice dayEmotion: wait
