Spend canada out of recession?

Conservatives hopes to spend Canada out of recession with billions in stimulus.

How to understand the "spend?" I know spend money, do not know spend Canada. Thanks.

It means that their spending will pull Canada out of the recession. I'm afraid I'm not able to give you a grammatical explanation, though.

Hi Delmobile,

Thanks for your answer. So may I understand like this:
The Conservatives are encouraging Canadian people to do more shopping or purchases to help Canada out of this economic crisis?

Not directly. The Conservative government is spending money on some kind of stimulus package that they hope will invigorate the Canadian economy. (When that happens, of course, the Canadians will be doing more shopping.)

yes, this is much more reasonable than what I thought before.
