spelling/the spelling

What is correct, spelling or the spelling, in the passage below?
"We should think of different ways of remembering spelling/the spelling. We should write out the different words over and over again."

Top answer

Both could work. "spelling" means spelling in general; "the spelling" means the spelling of some specific word(s). The second sentence may make the latter more likely, but it is not completely clear-cut.
