Spelling letters

hi,

is the word 'aitch' an actual word for the letter 'h'?

my friend says 'aitch' isn't a word but rather, 'aitch' is like an unofficial phonetic alphabet

also, is letters do have words, how come? why not just use the letters themeselves as words to keep things simpler?

thanks

Anonymous is the word 'aitch' an actual word for the letter 'h'? Yes, it is. Because "h" is unvoiced, you couldn't hear a word just with the sound /h/.
