Spelling Errors More Common Than Ever

It almost seems to be an epidemic. I'm refering to the misspellings of basic English words and incorrect homonym useage. I rountinely find errors in the local newspaper, on public signs, on work related correspondence, internet message boards etc. Is it just me, or are other people noticing more of this?
I'm not saying that I never make spelling mistakes. However, I do make an effort to proofread and correct my errors. Of course, there are many people who may not even know that they're making errors.

What or who do you think may be to blame for this ?

Not the word "misspelling," but the two words preceding it, which should be "work-related." Take a look at how I used "misspelling" the other two times.
I was just goofing, you know.

If it's in print, especially in a newspaper or magazine, it may not be the writer's fault at all.
