Spelling advice

I have just read this in a famous newsmagazine: [The leader of country X] used the occasion to upbraid [country Y] for stymieing the [a certain group's] path to statehood.

My dictionary says another spelling is stymying. Which spelling do you recommend to us learners? Thank you.
