I'm about to present a persuasive speech in front of my class. It would be a pleasure for me if someone could proofread it Emotion: smile

This is just a first draft:

Hello everybody,

I do appreciate the chance to speak in front of you today and I want to begin my speech with nothing but a simple question? Do you care about your physical beauty? Please raise your hand if you agree.. and now if you contradict !

Well, this question leads to a topic that we are all concerned about: SPORTS

Sport has become our communal activity, our environment of mutual support. People love to actively participate in sport activities in order to find a balance to their stressful daily routine.

In this speech it's my aim to motivate you to begin with sporting activities for those who have been lazy by now and furthermore to persuade people who are already into sports to increase their activities or to change them into a more healthy way.

Structure:
General value of sports in our society
Arguments in favour of sports ( no pain/ no gain)
Arguments against sports ( no sports)
Conclusion

General value:
The value of sports in our society can't be overestimated. 56.2 percent of the germans state that they do sports regularly. Even the percentage who is not into sports is very likely to watch sport events on television.
For instance every club in the german „Fußball-Bundesliga“ has a huge fanbase at their disposal. This is one of the major reasons why almost every person has at least a connection to sports.

Arguments in favour of sports

Now I would like to present you the arguments in favour of sports:

  1. To begin with, sport leads to a greater social contact and interaction. Nowadays it's common knowledge that too many kids hang out in front of the tv instead of meeting friends. Thus sporting children suffer less from isolation and lonliness

    1. In addition to this there's the fact that sport is a key way of losing weight or keeping weight off. Doing exercises that leave you breathless will ultimately help you to burn fat. And for those of you who hate any effort, console yourself with the words „no pain/no gain“.

      1. Moreover sport helps our vital organs. Getting the heart pumping, the lungs working deeply and the legs or arm muscles working hard helps improves the strength and stamina that we have. This in turn helps us to fight other diseases more effectively and to stay generally healthy. Additionally being lighter puts less strain on your muscles and your heart, so you are likely to have less pain in your joints, and a stronger heart. Along with proper nutrition, it plays a vital role in maintaining health Consequently you will live longer.

      1. Now, this is seriously the most important point, sport enhances one's ability to develop self confidence, a good sportsmanship and teamwork skills which are precious in other parts of life. I mean, how often have you read a help wanted advertisement where the employer wants a “team player” or a candidate that “works well with others”? You become aware that there will be times when you will win a match whereas there can be times you will lose a match. It is all about working hard and giving your best shot. The development of team spirit is another important feature of sports. As a consequence you are more likely to have a mental attitude which is more combative, and you will fight back, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and you will build a higher self-esteem.
Arguments against sports:

At this point I want to lead over to the negative points with a famous quotation. Winston Churchill was once asked how he had reached his old age ( He became 91). The british politician just answered :“ no sports

Now we come to the downside of sports: injuries. To profit from sports and to gain popularity, athletes risk their health because records go hand in hand with injuries. But of course their are many ways to prevent them. For instance you are well-advised to warm up yourself extensively. Furthermore most injuries happen while practicing sports in an unhealthy way. So it's your turn not to exaggerate. Keep yourself apart from sports that might threaten your health in the long run.

As you can see, there are no real arguments against sports. That's why today should be the perfect day to kick yourself and to begin a life with sports. The advantages are obviously.

Conclusion

To sum it up, sports provide us wiht a healthy life, a life full of joy and accomplishement, and a life with many advantages that might lurk beneath the surface at this moment in time, but might arise suddenly and lead you to your personal success.
