"Speaking in degree" ????

I have just read one of the key to distinguish between the spoken English anh others spoken languages is that the spoken English use "speaking in degree". I do not understand.

Please give me some example. Thanks in advance.

Here are the complete sentence.

Another key difference between spoken English and Chinese English is that spoken English is heavily graded. In other words, native speakers of English usually speak in degrees. English often uses " shades of difference meanings".

The writer is saying that In English, there are a lot of ways to say something with slight changes in meaning. I agree.
