speak to/speak with

Hello teachers! What is the difference between 'to speak with' and 'to speak to'?
F.E. 'If I knew French, I would speak with/to our guest.'

I've been learning English for a long time, and while I was doing a task, I thought which variant is more suitable.
Thank you.

Speak to is mainly used by British people;wherease speak with by American people. However,it's always explained that "speak to" means someone speaks and the other part listens only, and speak with is a direct conversation between two people.

Speak with would mean there is/was a long conversation/interaction between the two persons. Speak to would mean like only one person is talking, that is it is not quite interactive and long. All others may be just listening.
