Speak for / against

Dear teachers,

when trying to find out whether something belongs to type A or B you can bring arguments that

"speak against A or B".

Can you also use "speak for" to say that "these ideas speak for A"? Or do you use another expression for that?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't say speak for/against is wrong in this context, but I don't hear or read it. I hear or read other verbs, eg argue for/against.
