Spaces after a comma?

I was just told from a friend that I must have 2 spaces after a period. Is that correct?

That certainly used to be the rule and as someone who learned to type a long time ago it is a habit I still have. However, the current thinking, now we are all whizzing along on computer keyboards, is to only use one. I don't think it is really going to make much difference either way.

No. Only one space. The tradition of using two spaces after a period was caused by the fact that, when using a monosyllabic typewriter, a single space doesn't show the transition between two sentences clearly enough, and so two are necessary.
