Is whether or not two spaces are to be put after a colon, dependent on whether or not two are used after a period? That is, does it no longer make sense to put two spaces after a colon, if, throughout a given manuscript, only one space is put after a period?
Thank you.

That's right, Snarf. The two-space rule seems to have been abandoned with the typewriter. I sometimes use it, however, if the font is tight.
