Space out, neglect
Hi,
When I asked my friend about how much progress she’s made with her assignment for history, she told me that she hasn’t really started working on it yet. She said that she put it on the side and wasn’t thinking about it.
Could I use one of these to emphasize the fact that she isn’t giving it the attention she should?
“She’s been neglecting the assignment for weeks.”
“She spaced the assignment out.”
I’m not sure if you can ‘space something out’. I only know about ‘space out’.
Any other suggestions?

She decided to put it on the side and not do the assignment for the time being.
That is not 'spacing it out'. That is not doing it at all !
However, if she indeed were to 'space it out', and do the assignment a bit at a time, you could say "She spaced the assignment out over two months." Or "She spaced the assignment out over a t
