sound OK?

A sentence by a student of mine:

You shouldn't feel you have read the original after watching the movie (based on it).

What he is supposed to write is:

You souldn't assume that watching a movie is the same as reading the original.

Does his composition work?

I don't know if his 'feel' in that sentence is OK or not.

No, I don't think it works – I'd agree with "assume" here. "You shouldn't feel" is more likely to turn up in contexts such as: 1. You shouldn't feel you have to pay for lunch, just because it was your idea.
