Sound of "rl"

I have learned that L in words like world, girl is pronounced as a dark L and then I was wondering if we can say that all rl spelling is pronounced as a dark L or it just depends on what the word with rl is? What do you native English speakers think and how do you pronounce words with rl spelling?

Hans51 I was wondering if we can say that all rl spelling is pronounced as a dark L Yes, if the rl is syllable-final, but not when the r and the l are in separate syllables, as in "Orlando", which is pronounced as if these were two words "or lando". CJ

In many varieties of BrE, the 'r' is not pronounced at all.
