"soul" sister

Hi

The author of the book in the acknowledgments part says: To Lou Ann Glatzmaier, my best friend and "soul" sister, thank you for ...

--- I'm wondering about the part "soul" sister. I think it just means that she wasn't really the author's sister, but was close to her like a sister. What do you think?

Thanks

soul sister = not really a blood sister, but a woman with whom she shares so much in thinking, values, etc., that they are as close as sister (perhaps closer).

Something like "kindred spirit".
