"Sort of swept along" ?

I was watching Sherlock Holmes moive.
Two person were talking about relationships while they ate.

~ Did you think you'd found the right one when you married, Mrs. Hudson?
~ No. It was just a whirwind for us.
~ I knew it wouldn't work, but I just got sort of swept along. Right

What is that supposed to mean?
