Sort it or sort out?

Which is correct?

Plenty of water will sort out your hangover.

Plenty of water will sort your hangover.

I have a feeling both are correct..

In my experience, 'sort out' is the more standard phrase. But I hear simply 'sort' a lot in British contexts, eg TV shows. Perhaps that term is now close to standard in British English.
