Grammar

Sorry, I'm late. (punctuation)

1. Sorry, I'm late.
2. Sorry! I'm late.
3. Sorry I'm late.
4. Sorry. I'm late.

Hi this is my analysis of the above 4 sentences:

#1 Sorry, I'm [running] late. I don't have time to discuss this now.
#2 Sorry! I'm late. I missed my connection at Wellington Road.
#3 sorry [that] I'm late. I had to drop my daughter off at school.
#4 Sorry. I'm late. I know my submission was due yesterday. (less emphatic version of Number 2)

Conclusion:

#2 and #3 and #4 almost convey the same meaning with a different emphasis, but #1 is totally different from #2, #3, and #4.

Am I right?

Thank you.

I don't see that. I think #3 is the odd man out. It means that your being late is what you are sorry for. The others seem to mean that you're sorry for some consequence of your lateness. But you can't reliably convey meaning wi
