It seems that sophomore can be a person in the 2nd year in any career, not just a 2nd year college or university student. But this does not mention in my Marrian-Webster.

Any comment? Thanks.

Hi,

Any comment? It's really only in common use for college/university students. And it's a feature only of USA English.

It's used with high school students as well - 10th grade.

Also, you do find it used in other settings, such a sports. The first year a player is on a team is his rookie year, but the next year is his sophomore year. You certainly hear it when talking about (American) football.
