Sophocles Essay Question

Hi everyone, I have just been given the title for my first English assignment at University and I am very confused on how to approach the actual question;

"“In the plays of Sophocles, character is often pitted against the lyrical thrust of the great odes.” Discuss this tension with reference to one or more of Sophocles’ plays."

Are there any lovely souls out there who would be nice enough to give me a few pointers in the right direction and explain what the question is asking me to do.
