the first song you have listed about red cow giving white milk when it always eats green grass was recorded in New Zealand by Danny McGirr - it's called "the maori boys question" a comical song about a competition where school children were to try and outwitt the panel of experts by stumping them with a question they could not answer (very funny) competition held over several days !!

I am 64 years old and have strong memories of being taken to a pantomime in Melbourne Australia when I was about 10 years old (about 1955) and one of the songs included the lyrics "Why does a red cow give white milk when it only eats green grass?". That's all I remember from the entire show. The show's name has escaped me.

I haven't heard of the songs as you've written them, but I have heard another version of the red cow one- it's on a kiwi sing-a-long tape which we have:

Why does a red cow have white milk when it's always eating green grass

Why does a red cow have white milk when it's always eating green grass

That's the burning question the little Maori boy did ask

The Maori Boy's Question - Danny McGirr(?)

Well the quiz kids from all over the world,
they had a big contest.
A thousand dollar first prize
was offered to the best.

They came from different countries,
France, Spain and Fiji
but from New Zealand a little Maori boy,
a fair dinkum kiwi.

The kids asked questions all the day,

I was in a pantomime in at The Grand Theatre in Blackpool UK approx 1950. I clearly remember singing Why does a red cow eat green grass when it only gives white milk, the words where rolled down on a big screen & I was chosen to point to the words with a long stick so the audience could join in. I even remember what I wore!!!!

I sang the chorus of this with Wishee Washee in the Aladdin pantomime at Aldershot Hippodrome in 1954, but with the words :

"you don't know, I don't know,

Don't you feel an ***?

Why does the red cow ... etc

We were all awarded a Robertson's Golly badge and I received a Gollywog puzzlebook (8 pages) for singing it on my own. I told Wishee I'd heard it at a church Christ

Thank you so much. I work up with the You don’t know chorus going round in my head. I heard this in a family variety show when on holiday in the fifties. It would have been bothering me all morning. Now I can relax!
