Hi,
" Romance and all its strategy leaves me battling with my pride.
But through all the insecurity some tenderness survives.
I'm just another writer still trapped within my truth.

Can someone please briefly explain what all the lines above mean?

line 1: Romance and all its strategy leaves me battling with my pride.
Is it OK to say "romance and all its strategy leave me ....". I don't understand why singular verb form "leaves" is used.
It seems the writer was trying to add two concepts of 'romance' and 'its strategy' into the subject of first line, but not one concept.
