We are taught to tell the truth all the time; however; a white lie sometimes brings better results than the truth. The first reason is that telling a lie is an effective way to maintain the harmony of a relationship. For example, rather than make an honest judge about the new haircut of your friend which seems to be unfit with her clothes, lying in this situation is acceptable. It not only does not hurt her but also make a good impression on us. Another reason of telling a lie is that we show politeness. In some occasions, it is likely to deny an invitation to a party since it wastes your time or simply you do not want to participate. Last but not least, it may be morally acceptable to tell a lie, which leads to positive consequences. A doctor lies to his patient about the fact that the patient is catching cancer in order to spare her feelings. If the patient is revealed about his current illness, he will give up hope and affect treatment process. In conclusion, being honest is not always the right decision to make, a lie is encouraged if it can change a situation for the better.
