Something/anything

1) Are you sure that he has done anything illegal?
2) Are you sure that he has done something illegal?

Is there any difference between the meanings of these sentences?

I think '2' could be used in the case where we know what he has done, but do not know if that was illegal or not.
We know that he has torched his own car, but are you sure that he has done something illegal?

But in the case where the speaker wants to know whether or not the addressee has certain knowledge of something illegal he has done, I think both mean the same.

Gratefully,
Navi.
