Something was done / something has been done

I really don't understand what is the difference between these two sentances:

something was done
or
something has been done

For me it seems that the second sentance express situation happened 'just now' and the first sentance express it as something happened but without saying exactly when.
Could someone please explain it to me?
Thanks in advance!
