Some time ago, I was chatting with an American friend of mine.
I was laughed at by her because I mispronounced the word "to condemn" as /'kondem/ (Schwa-e) which she said then sounds like "condom".
"Interesting", I replied... "but why do you say condemnation /'kondemneishn/ then and not /ken'demneishn/?"
We were having real fun with this word actually meaning "nation of condoms" that evening.
