Someone told me "I've kept Xs and Ys afloat,"...

Hello,
I don't understand what is this sentence mean:
"I've kept Xs and Ys afloat,"

Note: "Xs" and "Ys" was not originally exist in the sentence.
They replace other words that were originally in in the sentence.
The words can be for example "views" , "downloads" , "donations" ..

So what does it means?
Is it means that he got for example a large amount of Xs and Ys? (for example: views / downloads / donations ) ?

Thank you

Please post the actual sentence. Here is an example: Timmons went into personal debt again to try to keep the store afloat. It means that the store was not making a profit, so Timmons had to borrow money to pay the utilities, rent, and employees.
