Hello,
Could you help me please find a suitable word?.

If for example,I have a homework to do,but my little sister gave me her cell phone to repare. Then,my mom asks me " why didn't you do your homework ?"
What shall I answer ?,I don't want to say that I was busy but something like " reparing the cell phone TOOK MY TIME ".( this sentence is meaningless in english;I'm looking for the right word).
2- A wife called her husband late at night because he didn't come home yet. " Where are you dear ?"
What should he answer ? something like " Oh I really didn't notice what time it is!! ,in fact, working on computer letme forget the time".(Also, this sentence is meaningless in english;I'm looking for the right word).

There are many ways to express your thought.
Here are two that sprang to mind when I read this post:
1. Repairing the phone took longer than I expected.
2. Oh, I lost track of the time.

Thanks for you replies.
Is it correct to say " I was absorbed by the work given to me that I forgot what time it is "
" I was captivated by the work given to me that I forgot what time it is".

Or

" I was so absorbed by the work given to me that I forgot what time it is "
" I was so captivated by the work given to me that I forgot what time it is".

The 'so' is required there. 'Was' rather than 'is'.
