Grammar

some/any

Hello,
could you help, please?

We've got a sentence to parafraze. We are supposed to use to word 'unless':

I sometimes go to a pub if there isn't any work to do.
I sometimes go to a pub unless there is some work to do.

I feel it's natural to say 'some' instead of 'any' but what is the grammatical explanation behind it?

'Any' is used in negative sentences and in questions.
Don't we treat a sentence with the word 'unless' as a negative sentence, then?

I will be grateful for your help.

Kind regards.
