Some vocabulary questions

Could you help me check out the following answers for the questions? Thnak you very much.

Please fill the blanks with roommate/ flatmate/ housemate.

1. In my freshman year of college, I shared a room with 3 roommates. It was very crowded with all of us together in one room.

2. At Chestnut Street, I had flatmates, but I had my own room.

Another question is " we had to pay a lot of money up frnot." I am not sure what the meaning of "up front."? Could you explain it to me?

The final question is " He rook the train down from Taipei?" That means "he took train from Taipei."
