Is "synonymous" used correctly here? For me the noun "synoym" sounds better.

[2] He has often been portrayed as a cold, calculative character.
Here, for me, "calculative" does not make sense. I think "calculating" would be my choise. Am I right?

[3] ... are illustrative of his evolution.
Here, my choise would be either "to" or "for" instead of "of". What do you think about it?

It's correct as it stands. I don't recommend that you change it to 'synonym'.
